Major artistic events both in concept and in scale, the MOIS DE LA PHOTO events are biennial exhibitions held in a number of big cities around the world. For the past eight years, under the auspices of the Vox Populi group, Montreal has been Canada's host city for this event. Considering the layout of the city, it would seem fit to qualify Montreal's edition of the MOIS DE LA PHOTO as a tentacular event, which, from a certain point of view, is actually quite pleasant at this time of year.
Carol Dallaire, Taking leave of the focal point
The album titled Le complet bleu ou l'apparence des choses qui ne sont pas des sons (The blue suit, or the appearance of things that are not sounds) would seem to be a foray into the autobiographical world of snapshots.

Randy Koroluk, Circonvolution
Randy Koroluk's photographs do not lend themselves to being viewed in a contemplative manner. Our eye ceaselessly wanders from plane to plane, finally being propelled in circumvolutions in many of the works.

A certain tendency, a tradition, germinated in Québec several decades ago with the work of John Max, through to that of Raymonde April and Michel Campeau. Recently, the second set of leaves in this growing tradition has started to open itself up to the photographic community and the art-going public.

By Marie-Josée Jean
Since it was invented, photography has been recognized for the sensitivity and intensity of its formal expression. With the rise of modernism, attention was brought to bear on the ability of photography to crystallize fleeting moments.

Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography. A history, a perspective, a place (Supplement)
By Pierre Dessureault
A museum is not only the sum of the objects in its collections but the history of an institution and a perspective on a particular area of creative expression. The Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, formerly the Still Photography Division of the National Film Board of Canada, was established in January 1985. Its transfer to the National Museums Corporation and its affiliation with the National Gallery of Canada perpetuated the mandate and programmes of the Division.
